Certification and Licensure Dictionary

This Certification and Licensure Dictionary is designed to assist districts in implementing the requirements and in ensuring that pre-K through Grade 12 educators are assigned to classes they are qualified to teach. It identifies both the certification areas and the licensure areas that are required for teaching specific courses. Teachers should hold either the certificate or license identified in this document for each course they teach.

Each section of the Certification and Licensure Dictionary is a viewable/downloadable PDF file. You will need the Acrobat Reader in order to view or print these documents.  If you do not have the Acrobat Reader, you may download it free here

Please note:  The text version of the Certification/Licensure Dictionary is in the process of being updated to reflect all of the possible license/EMIS subject code combinations that currently exist in the EMIS licensure checks.

To ensure you are able to access all of the currently valid licenses and certificates that are appropriate for teaching various courses, please use the EMIS Certification and Licensure Search tool, available on the ODE Web site at:  http://www.ode.state.oh.us/GD/Templates/Pages/ODE/ODEDetail.aspx?Page=3&TopicRelationID=1103&Content=142313.
