Adolescence to Young Adult or Multi-Age Supplemental Teaching License

The supplemental teaching license allows educators holding a currently valid Ohio standard teaching certificate or license to teach in a supplemental area, at the request of an employing Ohio school district, while they are in the process of obtaining standard licensure for that area.

Below are the requirements for obtaining and renewing an Adolescence to Young Adult (AYA) or Multi-Age Supplemental Teaching License.

Initial Requirements for Adolescence to Young Adult or Multi-Age Supplemental Teaching License:

  • A currently valid standard Ohio teaching certificate or license;
  • 20 semester hours in the subject area (or 40 semester hours for integrated social studies, integrated language arts or integrated science) for which the supplemental teaching license is sought, including a broad distribution of coursework covering all areas to be taught.
