The Ohio Mathematics and Science Partnership (MSP) provides professional development opportunities especially for Ohio’s mathematics and science educators.
The first purpose of Ohio MSP is to increase the subject matter knowledge and teaching skills of mathematics and science teachers. Programs bring together mathematics and science teachers with mathematicians, scientists and other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) faculty to expand teachers’ subject matter knowledge. This professional development includes activities that directly relate to the mathematics and science underlying the Ohio Academic Content Standards and enhance the ability of teachers to understand and effectively implement Ohio’s standards in their classrooms.
The second purpose of Ohio MSP focuses on professional development of mathematics and science teachers as a career-long process. Programs provide opportunities for advanced and ongoing professional development activities that improve teachers’ subject matter knowledge and knowledge of how students learn mathematics and science content. Projects provide teachers an opportunity to work with more experienced teachers and university faculty and to build collaborative peer groups in an effort to facilitate job-embedded and sustained professional development.
