Award of Merit

Historically, the State Board of Education has encouraged excellence in both college preparatory and career-technical curriculum. Outstanding students who are graduating this spring may receive special recognition from the State Board of Education for their achievements through the State Board of Education's Award of Merit.

The Award of Merit is available for students who meet the specified performance criteria and either the College Preparatory or the Career-Technical Curriculum Requirements.

The Award of Merit provides students with an excellent opportunity to receive extra recognition for their total educational achievements. This award differs from the Diploma with Honors. Students eligible for the Award of Merit and the Diploma with Honors may receive both.

Award of Merit certificates signed by the President of the State Board of Education and the State Superintendent of Public Instruction are available for high schools for presentation to those graduating students who meet the eligibility criteria (PDF). Versions of both the College Preparatory (click here) and the Career Technical Education (click here) Award of Merit certificates are available on the ODE website. Schools should download the version(s) they need and duplicate copies to meet their needs. No pre-printed Award of Merit certificates will be mailed out to schools.

Note: The Award of Merit will be available for the classes of 2012 and 2013 and then discontinued.
