New Information - GED Frequently Asked Questions

The GED® Test provides many Ohioans who did not finish high school an opportunity to earn an Ohio High School Equivalence Diploma. Like a regular high school diploma, the GED® diploma gives the diploma holder the opportunity to obtain employment, to apply for career advancement, to pursue higher education goals, or to reach a personal goal. Earning a GED® High School Equivalence Diploma is something to be proud of!

Coming in 2014! The current 2002 series is scheduled to end on Dec. 31, 2013. If you have not passed one or more parts of the 2002 series, beginning Jan. 1, 2014, you will need to take the entire test and pass to receive your GED®. Prior scores will not be counted. The cost of the GED® test in 2014 is $120.

Current Test Series! The GED® application test fee for all first-time test takers for the Paper-based Test (PBT) is $40. Re-testers will be charged $10 per subject test being retaken, up to a maximum of $40. Fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable. The GED® office does not notify applicants when GED® applications are approved. Please contact your test center 7-10 business days after you submit your application OR go online through your SAFE account to determine if you are eligible to schedule your test. Re-testers must contact a test center in order to schedule the test.

The last day to place an application for the Paper-based Test (PBT) is Aug. 9, 2013. All fees and documentation (accommodations, parental consent form and/or age waiver if required) must be in our office by Aug. 9, 2013. All paperwork received after this date will be returned to the applicant.
The last day in the State of Ohio for Paper-based Testing is Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 (based on each test center's schedule). NO TEST CENTER is permitted to test beyond that date!!

  2. The applicant must earn a minimum sub-test score of 410 points on each of the five subjects.

NOTE: Earning 410 points on each of the sub-test subjects does NOT meet the minimum total score requirement of 2250 points.

Where can I find study materials for the GED®?

Can a Foreign Exchange Student take the GED® test?

Yes, if they are 19 years of age or older. However, 16-, 17- and 18-year-olds must meet all Ohio Department of Education GED® Age Requirements.
