Family and Community Engagement Professional Development

Am. Sub. H.B. 30 eliminates the House Bill 1 requirement for all school districts to establish family and civic engagement teams, but it retains the requirement for districts that receive funds under the federal Race to the Top (RttT) program.

Ohio Revised Code Section 3301.96, "Any school district that is required by the agreement for a grant awarded under the federal Race to the Top program, Division (A), Title XIV, Sections 14005 and 14006 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009," Pub. L. No. 111-5, 123 Stat.115, to employ a linkage coordinator and engage in other activities for closing the achievement gap and increasing the graduation rate or to have a family and civic engagement team shall continue to comply with those provisions for the life of the grant award, in the manner provided for by former sections 3306.31, 3313.821, and 3313.822 of the Revised Code, which sections were repealed by Sub. H.B. 30 of the 129th general assembly.

The Ohio Department of Education has developed practical aids to help districts in meeting their Family and Community Engagement requirement: a toolbox of downloadable resource documents and a series of recorded webinars that can guide family and civic engagement planners.
