Ohio's new system for evaluating teachers will provide educators with a richer and more detailed view of their performance, with a focus on specific strengths and opportunities for improvement. The new system relies on two key evaluation components, each weighted at 50 percent: a rating of teacher performance (based on classroom observations and other factors), and a rating of student academic growth.

OPES training completion information needed from some participants
Individuals who have completed state-sponsored training and registration through STARS will soon receive an e-mail with username and password information for access to the online assessment portal for OPES credentialing.
Individuals who completed OPES training before Sept.1 , 2012 but did not register for the class through STARS must fill out a evaluator information form and forward the form as well as documentation of the completion of the OPES class to Evaluation@education.ohio.gov to be able to access the online assessment portal. Once the information is received and loaded into the online assessment portal, an e-mail will be sent with username and password information.

These items can assist you as you do research concerning a principal evaluation system for your district. The framework is not intended to be used or implemented, however, until state-sponsored training has been completed. Registration for training is available in STARS.
