The Ohio Department of Education (ODE), together with other state agencies, offers a variety of bullying prevention resources for families, schools and communities. The resources include a model anti-bullying policy and related presentation materials, online training, Web information and onsite workshops.
STATE OF OHIO INFORMATION AND MODEL POLICY
The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) assists districts in meeting their legal requirement to have in place a policy prohibiting harassment, intimidation and bullying. The following resources are available to help districts create and communicate about local policies:
- The State Board of Education's Model Anti-Harassment, Anti-Intimidation and Anti-Bullying Policy
- Anti-bullying Policies: Promoting a Positive School Climate (PowerPoint) - This presentation, which includes all required policy elements as well as suggested implementation procedures, is intended for school teams working on district policies. Educators may use and adapt the slides, as well as the script contained in the "notes" view of this document, for meetings concerning local policies.
- Fact Sheet for School Personnel (PDF) - The fact sheet presents the responsibilities of school districts for local policies, general guidelines for educators and links to useful resources.
- Fact Sheet for Parents of Teens (PDF) - Featured here is information about school policy requirements, guidelines for parents of bullied teens, information to help prevent and understand bullying, and additional resources.
- Fact Sheet for Parents of Young Children (PDF) - Here parents will find tips for preventing and coping with bullying, as well as an overview of the law's requirements.
- Training and Presentations - ODE also provides free presentations on the model policy through the Office for Safety, Health and Nutrition. Ohio Commission on Dispute Resolution and Conflict Management is a state agency that provides resources, training and direct services to Ohio schools, communities, courts and local governments. The Commission provides Ohio schools with constructive, nonviolent methods for resolving disputes and creating supportive learning environments. ONLINE TRAINING AND INFORMATION RESOURCES
The Bullying Toolbox prepared by the Ohio Resource Network (ORN) has Web links, model programs and multiple online teaching modules dedicated to learning about bullying, conflict resolution and school climate. ORN offers training and technical assistance to all Ohio school districts and communities about these topics, as well as about emergency preparedness and positive youth development.
